A method and a system for streaming multimedia contents are provided to stream only a selected one of plural sections of a multimedia file using section information corresponding to the selected section. When a multimedia file is divided into plural sections based on a reproducing time, streaming request information including section information about one of the plural sections is received from a client terminal(S417). It is determined whether or not a streaming-requested multimedia file is present in a storage medium. When the multimedia file is present, a section information file corresponding to the section information is streamed to the client terminal(S421).
