PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent local heat generation causing displeasure of a user without decreasing a charging current. SOLUTION: A charging unit 1 of the portable terminal device includes a charging battery (charging section) 10; a plurality of charging blocks (#1-#n)3<SB>1</SB>-3<SB>n</SB>for applying a charging current to the charging battery (charging section) 10; a usage status determining section 7 for determining the usage status of the portable terminal device; and a control unit 8 for selecting a charging block from among the charging blocks (#1-#n)3<SB>1</SB>-3<SB>n</SB>on the basis of the usage status of the portable terminal device in charging the charging battery (charging section) 10, and applying a charging current to the selected charging block.
