<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that eliminates asymmetry in viewing angle characteristics, particularly in a lateral direction (horizontal direction) by reinforcing the domain regulating force at an alignment control projection and achieves high-quality image display in a transflective liquid crystal display device having a homogeneous alignment. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a linear dielectric projection 110 extended along the direction of a short side (lateral direction or scanning direction) of pixels over a plurality of pixels in a pixel unit on a first substrate 114. A liquid crystal layer 121 has positive dielectric anisotropy, with the initial alignment direction of liquid crystal molecules at an angle of 80 to 100 degrees (preferably a right angle (90 degrees)) with respect to the extending direction of the linear dielectric projection 110. A common electrode 119 and a first alignment layer 150 have linear recessed portions 170, 172, respectively, formed at nearly center of the transmissive portion of the pixel and extending along the direction of the short side over a plurality of pixels arranged in the short side direction of the pixel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
