A plasma display apparatus and a method for processing the image signals thereof are provided to improve the reliability of the plasma display apparatus by displaying image signals based on the condition of a dot clock. A plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel having discharge cells, a driver for driving the plasma display apparatus, and a controller for driving the driver. The controller includes an image signal processor(210) and a micom(220). The image signal processor stores an internal image signal, processes external and internal image signals, and generates image data. The micom detects a dot clock included in the external image signal and determines whether the dot clock has a frequency included in a range. The micom transmits internal pattern signals to the image signal processor based on the condition of the dot clock. The image signal processor is driven in an internal operation mode for generating driving control signals to display internal image signals when the internal pattern signals are received.
