A shift register is provided to utilize effectively non-display parts by implementing switching devices in the non-display parts, which are formed at one and the other sides of a display unit. A shift register includes plural stages(ST1-STn+1) for supplying output pulses to gate lines of a display unit. Each of the stages includes first and second node controller(NC1,NC2), at least one pull-up devices(Trpu), and a first pull-down switching device(Trpd). The first and second node controller, which are formed at one and the other sides of the display unit, control the signal state of first and second nodes respectively. The pull-up and first pull-down devices, which are formed at one and the other sides of the display unit, generate output pulses and discharge voltages according to the signal states of the first and second node, and supply the generated output pulses and discharge voltages to one and the other sides of the gate lines, respectively.
