A multimode terminal and an operation method thereof are provided to efficiently reduce power consumption in operating a modem to access a multiple wireless communication network by activating a modem for micro cell access in macro cell access and searching for an adjacent AP(Access Point). A multimode terminal(100), which accesses a multiple wireless communication network containing the first wireless access unit for macro cell access and the second wireless access unit for micro cell access, comprises the first modem(130), the second modem(140), a movement detection module(110), and a modem control module(120). The first modem(130) accesses the first wireless access unit and executes communication. The second modem(140) accesses the second wireless access unit and executes communication. The movement detection module(110) detects a variation in RSSIs(Received Signal Strength Indicators) received from the first modem(130), compares it with a preset reference value, and judges whether the multimode terminal(100) is on the move. The modem control module(120) controls the first modem(130), the second modem(140), and the movement detection module(110). During the activation of the first modem(130), the modem control module(120) receives information, based on the standstill of the multimode terminal(100), from the movement detection module(110) and activates the second modem(140). |
