A dispersant for a metal nanoparticle, a method for preparing a metal nanoparticle by using the dispersant, and a metal nanoparticle prepared by the method are provided to make a metal nanoparticle easily and conveniently in various solvent without aggregation. A dispersant for a metal nanoparticle comprises a polyethyleneimine derivative which has a polyethyleneimine structure having a number average molecular weight of 400 or more and represented by H(-NHCH2CH2-)nNH2 or the formula 2, wherein the hydrogen atom of at least one -NH group is substituted with at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of a metal binding functional group and a solvent affinity functional group.
