A device and a method for controlling a DVD combo system are provided to control a DVD function and a VCR function simultaneously and to improve convenience of a user. A device for controlling a DVD combo system comprises a key input unit(101), a control unit(102), and a switching unit(105). The key input unit is positioned at a front surface panel of a remote controller or the DVD combo system to input-receive a mode selection key. The control unit controls functions of a VCR part(104) and a DVD part(103) according to a mode input through the key input unit. The switching unit outputs one or both the signals output from the DVD part and the VCR part under the control of the control unit. A method for controlling a DVD combo system includes a step of detecting whether the mode selection key is input through the key input unit; a step of detecting the mode when the mode selection key is input; a step of controlling the DVD part when the mode is a DVD mode, and controlling the VCR part when the mode is a VCR mode; and a step of storing an operational condition performed before changing the mode.
