An LCD and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to reduce the parasitic capacitance between a pixel electrode and a data line and improve brightness characteristic by forming the pixel electrode to have an asymmetric structure. A gate line(216) and a data line(217) define one of pixel regions, which are arranged on a first substrate in a matrix type. A switching element is formed at a crossing portion of the gate line and the data line. A first dummy line(208) is disposed in the same direction of the data line. A pixel electrode(218) is formed within the pixel region. The pixel electrode has an up-and-down asymmetric structure where a portion of the pixel electrode overlaps a portion of the first dummy line at different widths in an upper portion and a lower portion of the pixel region. A second dummy line(209) is formed below the pixel electrode. A portion of the second dummy line overlaps a lateral surface of the pixel electrode at different widths in the upper portion and the lower portion of the pixel region. A second substrate is oppositely bonded to the first substrate. |
