PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic component for making the gas adsorbing function of a getter arranged in a cabinet having vacuum atmosphere exerted without carrying out heating, and the method of manufacturing the electronic component. SOLUTION: The electronic component has an infrared ray detection element 20 and a cabinet 10 in which or to which the element is arranged or attached, and which forms a cavity C having roughly vacuum atmosphere. The cabinet 10 has deformable portions 13A-13D which deforms when external force is given. At least a part of the deformable portions 13A-13D is formed of a material comprising a getter having a gas adsorbing function. The deformable portions 13A-13D are in the shape of convexities toward an outer side relative to the general surface of the cabinet 10.
