<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a technology for securing traveling safety by properly evading the torque fluctuation of driving wheels due to the start of an engine in a hybrid vehicle for performing mode switching accompanied with the start of the engine. <P>SOLUTION: Although the start of an engine 1 is requested in a step S1, when it is judged that a hybrid vehicle is put in a coast traveling status or a traveling status in a step S2, the step is returned from a step S6 to a step S2, and control to inhibit the start of the engine is executed.
