<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device having high condensing efficiency, and an image display device which can be miniaturized and lightened in weight. <P>SOLUTION: This light source device is equipped with a wave guide 11 for resonating microwaves, an electrodeless lamp 14 inserted in the open cavity 13 of the wave guide so that a part of a light emitting part protrudes on the surface part of the wave guide as a light emitting part, a probe 12 coupled to the wave guide so as to generate the microwaves, and a composite parabolic condensing mirror 15 installed so as to converge luminous flux radiated from the light emitting part 14a of the electrodeless lamp. Instead of the composite parabolic condensing mirror, an ellipsoidal reflecting mirror formed by superimposing a light pipe over a reflecting member or the like may be used. This image display device separates light into three prime color light by using this light source device, modulates the three prime color light in accordance with an image signal, and the modulated light is optically compounded to emit it as image light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
