PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medicament comprising at least one double-stranded oligoribonucleotide (double-stranded RNA) designed to inhibit expression of a target gene. SOLUTION: One strand of the double-stranded RNA is at least partially complementary to the target gene. Furthermore, the target gene can be selected from the following group: a cancer gene, a cytokine gene, an Id protein gene, a developmental gene and a prion gene. The target gene can be expressed in a pathogenic organism (especially a plasmodium). In addition, the target gene may preferably be a part of a virus or a viroid which is pathogenic to humans.
