PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of creases and to appropriately fix a medium in a printing apparatus using a medium roll on which the medium is wound in a rolled shape. SOLUTION: The printing apparatus is equipped with a delivering roller 102, a printing part 112, a table 110, a winding roller 108 and a conveying controlling part 114. The conveying controlling part 114 controls the conveying speed of the medium 30 so that a speed switching operation switching successively conveying at a first conveying speed, conveying at a second conveying speed lower than the first conveying speed, and stopping the conveying is repeated. When the medium 30 is conveyed at the second conveying speed, the table 110 sucks the medium 30 by a first degree of vacuum, and when conveying the medium 30 is stopped, the table 110 sucks the medium 30 by a second degree of vacuum higher than the first degree of vacuum to fix the medium 30 by suction.
