PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently solubilizing membrane proteins from biomembranes. SOLUTION: A membrane protein solubilizing agent containing a copolymer represented by general formula (1) is provided. (Wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>7</SP>are respectively a 1-10C, 1-6C or 1-6C divalent hydrocarbon; R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>may be the same or different and is H or a 1-6C linear or branched chain hydrocarbon; R<SP>6</SP>and R<SP>8</SP>are H or methyl; m and n are the ratios of each constituent; m/n is 5/95-95/5; and average molecular weight is 1,000-5,000,000).
