<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a memory card for allowing data to be completely erased therefrom and preventing illegal access and a system using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The memory card is provided with: a user-area invalidation detection means for detecting, by a command transmitted from the outside, all-area invalidation showing that all memory areas available for a user in the memory card are invalidated; and an all-area invalidation means for invalidating, when the user-area invalidation detection means detects the invalidation of the all-area including a data area and a management area. If the command transmitted from a host apparatus indicates the user-area invalidation, the fact is detected.
