The system has pressure transducers (5, 6, 7) determining a fluid pressure in a pipeline (3) at a point between two pipeline check valves (1, 2). A relief line is connected to a bypass line between a bypass valve (9) and an end of the bypass line, and a relief valve (12) is connected along the relief line. The relief valve is switchable between an open position and a closed position, where a fluid flow is permitted through the relief line in the open position of the relief valve and the fluid flow through the relief line is blocked in the closed position of the relief valve. An independent claim is also included for a method for resetting a pipeline protection system.
