PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce volume and weight of excavated sediment and dredged sediment with high water content during conveyance. SOLUTION: This belt conveyor 1 is constituted by hanging an endless belt 4 around a head pulley 2 disposed on the nose side and a tail pulley 3 disposed on the tail end side, and as shown in a sectional drawing, a belt 4 is formed by covering the conveying surface of a belt body 5 with a water absorbing/draining layer 6 formed of a temperature-sensitive water absorbing/draining water-retaining agent. Further, the belt conveyor 1 is constituted to form high temperature environment on the tail end side by providing a heater 8 serving as a heating means near the tail pulley 3.
