An apparatus and a method for managing contents are provided to lower an occupancy ratio in a CPU by receiving a changing state of contents from a file system. A storage part(120) stores one or more contents. A content list management part(130) generates a content list related to contents corresponding to at least one monitoring condition which is registered to manage the contents. The content list management part manages the content list on the basis of event generating information transferred according to a state monitoring result of the storage part. A monitoring part(140) monitors a state of the storage unit on the basis of the monitoring condition, and transmits the event generating information to the content list management part when a predetermined event is generated from the storage part.
