PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens interchange type camera, the application scopes of the camera body of which can be extended and the grip performance of which can optimally be ensured at all times. SOLUTION: The lens interchange type camera 10 comprises the camera body 11 and a lens unit 12. The lens unit 12 comprises a lens barrel 13 provided with an imaging element and a base substance 14 fixed to the lens barrel 13. The base substance 14 comprises a camera main body connection part 18 to which the camera main body 11 is freely removably connected and a grip part 19 integrally formed to an end of the camera body connection part 18. A slot 20 to which the camera body 11 is inserted is formed to a side face of the camera body connection part 18. The camera main body 11 includes an imaging element, can execute photographing as a single body when the camera body 11 is not connected to the lens unit 12, and can carry out photographing by driving the imaging element of the lens unit 12 when the lens unit 12 is connected to the camera body 11 inserted to the slot 20.
