An apparatus and a method for controlling caption information in an optical disc player are provided to increase user satisfaction and efficiency in using caption information for language study. An apparatus for controlling caption information in an optical disc player comprises a caption extracting unit(106), a text converting unit(108), and a control unit(102). The caption extracting unit extracts caption information of contents. The text converting unit changes the extracted information into a text file. The control unit inserts frame caption information, reproducing time information, and language information into the text file and records the information in an external memory device through an external output terminal.
