PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce waste label and waste printing range by detecting a page pitch, namely an arrangement interval of the labels or the printing ranges on a long-size paper, with the minimum amount of conveyance of the long-size paper. SOLUTION: When length by nearly one sheet of the label is set in a page length setting means B, a long-size paper conveying means C conveys the long-size paper by the set length, and during the conveyance, a sensor level memory means E stores a sensor level as an output signal level of a photo-electric sensor D corresponding to the amount of the light transmitted or reflected by the long-size paper, while coping with the amount of conveyance of the long-size paper, and a threshold value setting means F sets a threshold value based on a value of the sensor level stored in the sensor level memory means. A label pitch detecting means G checks two points where the sensor level stored in the sensor level memory means E exceeds the set threshold value from the same direction including the time during conveyance of the long-size paper thereafter, and detects the amount of conveyance of the long-size paper between the two points as a label pitch (page pitch), namely the arrangement interval of the labels on the amount.
