PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographing apparatus for a vehicle detecting soiling of the photographing apparatus at high precision and a soiling detection method for the photographing apparatus for the vehicle. SOLUTION: The photographing apparatus for the vehicle 1 equipped with a photographing means 13 for photographing the perimeter of one's own vehicle is provided with a soiling self diagnosis means 14d detecting soiling of the photographing means 13 and a soiling diagnosis permitting means 14e permitting detection of the soiling to the soiling self diagnosis means 14d when an object detecting means 2 detecting an object in the perimeter of the vehicle detects the object.
