PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce structural stress in a head and to simultaneously attain effective control in head-disk clearance adjustment using a heater. SOLUTION: In one embodiment of the present invention, an HDC/MPU 23 controls a slew rate of the heater in TFC (Thermal Fly height Control). The HDC/MPU 23 varies the slew rate of current/voltage output to the heater according to processing conditions. Thus, the head stress is reduced and effective TFC is simultaneously attained. Specifically, the HDC/MPU 23 refers to a temperature-slew rate table 242 to vary the slew rate according to temperature in read/write processing. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
