PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charger for a copying machine, the charger designed such that a cleaning mechanism for a discharge electrode is of a simple constitution, is easy to maintain, and is low cost. SOLUTION: The charger 10 for the copying machine includes a sheet metal 12, on which at least one discharge needle 12a is formed and supplied with power for conducting discharge corona; an insulating rotation shaft 14 with the sheet metal attached thereto; and a cleaning brush disposed, at a position where when the sheet metal is rotated by rotating the rotating shaft, the sheet metal moves across it. Furthermore, it is preferable that the charger have a grounded counter electrode, around or adjacent to the discharge needle. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
