PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical centrifugal pump capable of increasing reliability of operation by preventing dry operation of a shaft seal part with a simple structure. SOLUTION: The vertical centrifugal pump is provided with an upper casing 10, a lower casing 12, a main shaft 16 which can rotate in relation to the upper casing 10, an impeller 14 attached on a lower end of the main shaft 16, and a mechanical seal 18 provided between the upper casing 10 and the main shaft 16. A flow control vane 30 introducing secondary flow S generated by rotation of the impeller 14 to the mechanical seal 18 is provided on the upper casing 10. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
