<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact color image forming apparatus and to improve processing operability of transfer paper by enabling the color image forming apparatus to handle any paper such as postcards and thick paper as transfer paper. <P>SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus forms a composite toner image by repeatedly transferring a toner image formed on a photoreceptor belt 1 to an intermediate transfer belt 10 and thus putting a plurality of toner images one over another, and transfers the composite image from the intermediate transfer belt 10 to transfer paper at a time to form a color image. The intermediate transfer belt 10 is disposed obliquely while tensed between rotary rollers 11 and 12, and a toner image on the photoreceptor belt 1 is transferred below an inclined belt surface. A paper feed cassette 17 is disposed on a lower side of an apparatus main body and a stack section is arranged on an upper side; and a conveyance path extending to a fixing device 49 while including a conveyor roller 19, a resist roller 50, and a transfer roller 14 is inclined almost in parallel to the intermediate transfer belt 10.
