PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which prevents the quality of a read image from being deteriorated due to density irregularity caused by the variation of secondary illumination light due to the influence of document density, and to provide an image forming device. SOLUTION: In the image reader which reads a document image on a contact glass 2 by moving a first carriage 4 and a second carriage 5 in a sub-scanning direction, a dust prevention cover 14 is provided in the frame 11 of the first carriage 4 as made of a transparent resin which protects a first mirror 13 provided outside the frame 11.
