INDIRECT INJECTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means performing suitable torch injection in a wide operation condition of an engine. SOLUTION: This engine is provided with: a main combustion chamber 40; a subsidiary chamber 44 constructed by a cylinder head 30 and a piston 32 at a location near a top dead center; an ignition means 41 performing ignition in the subsidiary chamber 44; a variable compression ratio means varying engine compression ratio by varying top dead center position of the piston 32; a communication path 43 establishing communication between the main combustion chamber 40 and the subsidiary chamber 44 and changing opening area according to the top dead center position of the piston 32; and a control means 50 controlling opening area of the communication path 43 according to an engine operation condition.
