PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simulation device for a Gaussian beam capable of easily avoiding a convergence shift of the Gaussian beam. SOLUTION: A computer is connected to a positioning device for a beam wave source for emitting the Gaussian beam, and executes a differential time domain method. Beam wave source setting processing is carried out as to the beam wave source, in the differential time domain method. A convergence value b<SB>i</SB>is determined based on an initial value b<SB>0</SB>related to a beam waist diameter w<SB>0</SB>input by a user, in the beam wave source setting processing (steps S301-S306). An electric filed intensity U of the Gaussian beam is found followed thereto, based on the determined prescribed value b<SB>i</SB>. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
