<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce loss accompanying branching of a signal light, by reducing the components of diffracted light beams that, from among the beams, are not coupled with a funnel-type optical waveguide. <P>SOLUTION: An optical circuit is equipped with an input optical waveguide 31 for inputting a signal light, a slab optical waveguide 32 optically connected to the input optical waveguide 36, a plurality of funnel type optical waveguides 33 optically connected to the slab optical waveguide 32, and an output optical waveguide 34 optically connected to each of the funnel type optical waveguides 33. The core width of the input optical waveguide 31 is modulated nonmonotonically so that the direction of the variation changes at least in one place along the longitudinal direction of the waveguide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
