PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel tape measure using a simple structure and that is capable of smoothly unwinding to a joint, between a measuring tape and a take-up spring. SOLUTION: An external end 4A of the take-up spring 4 is provided with a coupling engaging piece 40. An internal end 2A of the measuring tape 2 includes a coupling engaging hole 21 and a coupling engaging piece insertion guide slot 22, extending in the longitudinal direction of the tape 2 and continuous with the engaging hole 21. A measuring tape longitudinal tip side rim 21b of the hole 21 is designed to overlap with the leading edge 42a of a wide tab 42 by a small width, when the coupling engaging piece 40 is inserted into the coupling engaging hole 21 and the measuring tape 2 and the take-up spring 4 are overlaid along the longitudinal direction. When the leading edge 42a is depressed, the overlap with the side rim 21b is turned over; however, a breadthwise end 42 of the wide tab 42 will not turn over from a side rim 21a of the hole 21 but will be kept on the side rim 21a.
