In a device (1) for cleaning a pipe (2), the cleaning tool (5) which can be actuated by a motor is constructed in the form of a saw blade, a tappet or the like, which can be driven in a translatory fashion, and an axially adjustable actuation piston (12) inserted in a cylinder (11) and acted on on both sides by pressure medium serves as drive motor to drive the cleaning tool (5), said drive motor being in drive connection with the cleaning tool (5) via a lifting shaft (13) and its translatory adjustment movements being reversible by means of a control valve (21) which is inserted in the pressure medium feed line (31), is constructed in a special manner, and is automatically switched over as a function of the position of the adjustment piston (12). The obstacle to be removed can thus be processed in an impacting or sawing fashion since the translatory movements of the lifting shaft (13) can have a rotational movement superimposed on them. And since the saw blade (5) extends only over a part of the circumference of the pipe (2), a large part of the passage cross-section remains free so that the device (1) can also be moved forward around bends in the pipe and a pipe does not need to be taken out of service for its inside to be cleaned because the rinsing water and waste water flows away virtually unimpeded. <IMAGE>
