PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording device which can prevent waste ink from overflowing from a waste ink storage means irrespective of the environment where the inkjet recording device is used, and a control method of the inkjet recording device. SOLUTION: The inkjet recording device obtains the cumulative quantity of waste ink held in the waste ink storage means 60 on the basis of the quantity of waste ink discharged from the recording head 100. The inkjet recording device obtains the cumulative quantity of discharged waste ink on the basis of the quantity of discharged waste ink discharged from the recording head to a discharged waste ink receiving portion 62 provided in the waste ink storage means 60. When the total quantity of waste ink exceeds a threshold value previously set or when the cumulative quantity of discharged waste ink exceeds a preset threshold value, the recording device performs control relating to the storage limit of the waste ink storage means 60, reporting control for example.
