PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect the phase of an incoming signal containing high-frequency noise. SOLUTION: This detection device includes an average period detector for detecting an average period of the incoming signal varying periodically, a converter for converting the incoming signal into a rectangular signal using a predetermined level as a threshold value, an edge detector for successively detecting information on the rising or falling timing of the rectangular signal, and an edge history storage section for storing information on N timings detected successively in the edge detector, a difference calculator for successively calculating N difference values by subtracting time durations of integer(from one up to N) multiples of the average interval, from the time durations from the predetermined timing up to the individuals of the N timings, an average-difference-value calculator for calculating the average of the N difference values, and an edge position calculator for calculating the next rising or falling timing.
