<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AV system which is capable of updating the firmware of a receiving apparatus without using a dedicated jig etc. <P>SOLUTION: A source apparatus 1 divides an update file into two or more update packets (UD packets) and gives the UD packets packet numbers respectively. The source apparatus 1 forms header packets containing packet information for identifying the UD packets. The source apparatus 1 transmits the header packets and the UD packets repeatedly. A sink apparatus 2 judges whether all the UD packets are registered in a memory 27 or not resting on the basis of the packet information in the received header packets. When all the UD packets are registered, the sink apparatus 2 turns hot plug signals from active to nonactive.
