<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic display device which achieves a natural stereoscopic view without increasing a burden imposed on the eyes of an observer and without a sense of discomfort. <P>SOLUTION: Eyeball motion due to movement of a visual line is detected in a stereoscopic view image visually recognized by a user 1 and position control of an optical system is performed in accordance with images to be displayed on displays 111L, 111R as eyeball motion detecting signals, a visual line direction and a focal distance, thereby accurately following up the speed and the moving amount of the visual line movement of the user 1 visually recognizing the stereoscopic view image, so that the user 1 can naturally visually recognize, without the sense of discomfort as a stereoscopic view image, an optimal display image corresponding to the moving state of the visual line to an image signal having depth information.
