<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten remarkably a time required for replacement of a seed crystal; to improve productivity; and further to prevent deformation and shortening of a service life caused by repeated cooling and reheating. <P>SOLUTION: This sapphire single crystal growth apparatus includes: a first chamber having an insertion port formed on the upper surface, which is a first chamber in which alumina is stored and melted; a second chamber provided on an upper part of the first chamber so as to be communicated with the insertion port of the first chamber; a seed crystal rod provided with a seed crystal on the terminal end, which is a seed crystal rod passing through the second chamber and descending into the first chamber, or ascending from the first chamber; and a chamber blocking part provided on the lower end of the second chamber, for opening/closing the insertion port; wherein, when the terminal end of the seed crystal rod is allowed to ascend for replacement of the seed crystal and stored inside the second chamber, the chamber blocking part closes the insertion port. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
