PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an organic EL (electroluminescent) element which attains a longer life time as well as a higher luminous efficiency, and also can get more productivity. SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing an organic EL element comprises processes for forming an anode layer 3; forming a function layer 5 on an anode layer 3 consisting of a positive-hole injection/transportation layer 6 and a light emitting layer 7; and forming a cathode layer 4 on the function layer 5. In the process of forming of a function layer 5, the light-emitting layer 6 is formed by coating a liquid-like material which is made by dissolving or dispersing organic layer materials into an organic solvent and by drying it. For the organic solvent, a mixture solvent is used consisting of a main solvent and at least one kind of sub-solvent in a mixing ratio of 10 to 50 weight%, and the sub-solvent has a lower boiling point than that of the main solvent.
