A system for providing a video service and a method thereof are provided to move contents affiliated to the same category whose elements has the same parent, and to reduce access time for a medium. A method for providing a video service comprises the following several steps. A video platform server, connected to a menu providing apparatus and a content providing apparatus, performs a setup procedure such that the menu and the content can be received in real time(S401). The video platform server initializes a mobile terminal(S402), and provides a main video service menu for the mobile terminal(S403). If the server receives DTMF(Dual Tone Multi Frequency) signals for moving the menu or the content from the mobile terminal, the server determines a service related to the DTMF signals(S404,S405). If the DTMF signals are related to specific lower menus among the main menu, the server switches to the selected lower menu and provides the switched lower menus for the terminal(S406,S407). If the terminal selects one among the lower menus, the server determines a corresponding service(S408,S409). The server switches to the menu providing apparatus and provides the switched menu for the terminal if the corresponding service is related to a menu movement, and switches to the content providing apparatus and provides the switched content for the terminal if the corresponding service is related to a content movement(S410,S411). The server determines a service regarding a resource request based on DTMF signals if receiving the resource request from the mobile terminal while providing the content(S412,S413). If the service is for the content movement in the step S413, the server switches to other content, and provides the switched content for the mobile terminal.
