<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal panel that has superior display properties and enables thinning, and to provide a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal panel includes: a liquid crystal cell; a first optical compensation layer being a λ/4 plate, which is arranged at one side of the liquid crystal cell and has a refractive index distribution of nx>ny=nz; a second optical compensation layer being a λ/2 plate, which has the refractive index distribution of nx>ny=nz, and a first polarizer; and a third optical compensation layer, which is arranged at the other side of liquid crystal cell; a fourth optical compensation layer; and a fifth optical compensation layer being a λ/2 plate, which has the refractive index distribution of nx>ny=nz, and a second polarizer. Either one of the second and the fifth optical compensation layer is a coating layer including a liquid crystal material, and the other is a drawn film of polymer film. The third optical compensation layer is a tilt orientation layer being a material that exhibits an optically negative uniaxiality.
