The valve includes a control spool that is movably received in a bore of a valve housing to control hydraulic flow to and from control channels in the housing and that open into the bore. The control spool is provided with a coating that includes at least one metal of the eighth sub-group and with a non-metal of the fifth main group of the periodic table.
