The method involves adjusting transmittable moments by communication between a gear and a controllable all-wheel drive (AWD) coupling in a situation dependent manner, where the gear and a transmission unit in an all-wheel drive chain are protected. The transferable moments are adjusted based on signals, which are generated by road surface-and/or wheel rotation speed sensors. The engine interference is provided to reduce the transferable moments.
