PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner remaining quantity detector capable of precisely detecting a toner remaining quantity by sufficiently removing noise in a detection signal. SOLUTION: The toner remaining quantity detector includes a light emitting member, a cleaning member, a light reception member 24, and a detection signal generation part 41. The light emitting member emits light into a developing device. The cleaning member is rotatably supported in the developing device at the prescribed rotational speed, and can periodically transmit or shield the light from the light emitting member. The light reception member 24 receives the light from the light emitting member 24 transmitted by the rotational operation of the cleaning member. The detection signal generation part 41 takes out a signal having a transmission section and a light shielding section from the light reception quantity of the light reception member 24, and generates a detection signal for toner remaining quantity detection in the developing device. In particular, the detection signal generation part 41 includes a dividing part 43 dividing the transmission section by first timing to divide it into two or more signals, an S/H part 44 sample-holding each divided signal by second timing in the transmission section, and a subtraction part 45 subtracting each signal after the sample-holding.
