PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which a liquid crystal cell can be optically compensated accurately, having excellent productivity and improved angle-of-view property of color.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal (31) held between a first substrate and a second substrate (21), and the device is characterized in that: the first substrate (21) has a patterned layer divided into fine areas; the patterned layer contains a color filter layer (23) and an optical anisotropic layer (27) laminated in the direction of the normal line of the substrate; and a barrier wall (22) is disposed at a boundary portion of the patterned layers.
