<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new dioxetane compound having good compatibility with a liquid crystal compound, also having good compatibility with a non-liquid crystal compound, and providing a strong polymer by cationic polymerization; and to provide applications thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The asymmetric dioxetane derivative is represented by general formula (1) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each hydrogen, a methyl group or an ethyl group; L<SP>1</SP>is -(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>- (n is 1-12); X<SP>1</SP>is a single bond, -O-, -OCO- or -COO-; Y is a single bond or -CO-; and M<SP>1</SP>is a ring structure].
