A method and a system for treating a volatile organic compound are provided to make the volatile organic compound harmless, and improve the energy efficiency within facilities requiring the treatment of the volatile organic compound. A volatile organic compound, which is contained in gas to be treated, is adsorbed in an adsorbent. The volatile organic compound adsorbed in the adsorbent is desorbed from the adsorbent by using steam, and mixed with the steam, under a pressurized environment. The steam into which the volatile organic compound is mixed is burned to generate combustion gas. The steam is generated by using the heat of the combustion gas.
