PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing mechanism capable of quickly and precisely focusing from infinity to the closest distance, and to provide optical equipment that uses the focusing mechanism. SOLUTION: The focusing device includes an optical system member that is made movable along the optical axis of an optical system; a first screw body rotated with the rotation of an operating member; a second screw body engaged with the first screw body, and also, including a cam follower; a cam follower control means that includes a rotation control part for controlling the rotation and revolution of the cam follower about the rotating shaft and the revolving shaft of the operating member and a rotation control releasing part for releasing the rotation control of the cam follower about the rotating shaft and the revolving shaft of the operating member; an optical member moving means for moving the optical member along the optical axis, with the movement of the second screw body along the rotating shaft.
