PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide puffer fish skin-originated collagen and/or a derivative thereof, whose puffer toxin is detoxicated. SOLUTION: Puffer fish skins are subjected to a combination of an alkali treatment process with a water-containing ethanol treatment process to obtain collagen and/or a derivative thereof, whose puffer toxin is detoxicated. Fish skin-originated collagen and collagen derivatives obtained by conventional methods had low moisture-retaining properties, and could have been used only in limited fields in the field of cosmetics. The above-mentioned puffer fish skin-originated collagen and collagen acylated derivatives are effectively used for cosmetics and the like to give excellent skin smoothness and excellent humidity-retaining property.
