PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device with which arithmetic processing of control values of a luminance liquid crystal panel performing image display of an HDR system (two modulation optical systems) and a color liquid crystal panel for every RGB can be performed with simplicity and high accuracy. SOLUTION: The image display controller performs control of the display device having luminance modulation elements and color modulation elements and has a maximum value selection section which extracts the maximum value from each signal value of the RGB components in an input video signal and outputs the same as the maximum signal value, a luminance control value generation section which generates a luminance control value to perform control of the luminance modulation element from the maximum signal value, a color correction section which corrects the signal value of each of the RGB components in correspondence to the luminance control value and outputs the signal as a correction signal value, and a color control value generation section which generates the color control value of each of the RGB from the correction signal value.
